My studio is located in the Italian Market neighborhood of Philadelphia. I am happy to have a new press - a Vandercook SP15 (no motor). It shares the space with the Graves etching press and the No. 2 Vandercook Proof Press. The No. 2, built in 1934, requires hand inking with a brayer and has no grippers to hold the paper. This makes edition work more time consuming and a little tricky. So far all my books have been printed on the No. 2 and it is a wonderful press. However, I am currently printing on the SP15 and will use it to produce my next book. You use a small hand crank to distribute the ink to the rubber rollers. It is a joy to get such even inking! My linoleum cuts for my last book "Tides" were printed on the Graves etching press on damp Twinrocker paper so that the images would emboss.
